Dr. Portera, the former President of Mississippi State University and Chancellor of the University of Alabama System, has been involved in economic development for the past 40+ years. Dr. Portera helped to recruit industrial development projects that have resulted in over $15 billion of capital investment in the Southeast U.S. These projects include Nissan-Mississippi, Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Mississippi, Hyundai-Alabama, Mercedes-Benz Alabama, Victor Company of Japan and several others. In 2013, The Korea Innovation Center named Dr. Portera as a Global Leader Mentor to help advise Korea's Creative Economy Initiative. Throughout his career in higher education, Dr. Portera worked to ensure that his universities worked to support local, regional, and state economic and workforce development efforts.
Andy, an attorney by training, represented business and industry in complex litigation matters throughout the Southeast U.S. before turning his focus to economic and workforce development. Andy has an active consulting practice where he assists higher education clients, business and industry, and industrial development organizations throughout the Southeast. Andy's passion is helping communities create jobs that spur economic growth.
"The money we spent with Portera is one of the best investments this county has ever made."
